GeoBiking News July 2010
Hi,
Have to apologize about not doing a lot of new trails this year. I just added 5 new Boulder county routes and the Falcon Trail on the Air Force Academy. Finally got around to organizing and loading 5 slideshows to provide about 150 pictures for Colorado Springs, Greenland area and the new Boulder routes.
Throughout the winter I spent countless hours adding paths, creeks, parks, canals, schools and a whole host of other entities to the Open Street Map for the Front Range area. Also did a ton of street alignment work From Ft Collins to Colorado Springs. Below is a small tile from some of that work.
Beta Testing
I have been beta-testing a GPS and associated software recently. That work has been going well and some of what I've been testing is on the way to customers. Still testing some new hardware and firmware for release later this summer.
Announcements
GPSxl8r, is now functional! GPSxl8r is an application I developed to help me process information to be used with different GPS receivers or mapping applications. I used it while processing my recently posted trail data. This tool allows for translation of waypoint symbols, route & track colors between different vendors or even different models of the same vendor. It will translate over 120 symbols between newer DeLorme & Garmin GPS units. If you just read/load the files only 22 symbols will be the same, no track/route colors will be used. The software also has the ability to merge the separate waypoint, route and track files that DeLorme software and hardware create into one file to share with other applications/users as a single entity.
So far I've tested my software with DeLorme & Garmin products. Lowrance has promised me twice that they would provide me an evaluation unit, but haven't come thru. The application creates compliant .gpx files that work with National Geographic et al. Future plans are to include creation/translation of .kml files to translate symbols etc to/from Google Earth.
I will create a page on this site with more information and screen shots when it gets closer to completion.
