Trail Information Last modified on: Sunday, August 23, 2009
Currently in process of adding codes for trails - codes may not be complete. (3/11/09) All files provided in zip format were created using Microsoft Windows Explorer (e.g. "My Computer")
Simply download the file to your computer and use that program to extract the files.
("Extract All Files" should be in the list of Folder Tasks.)
Trail closures are listed on zone listing. I will update as I learn of changes.
Google Earth placemark file (June_21_09) shows approximate locations. I often group several trails together and give the resulting trail a "combined name" because:
Many trails are short, or may have name changes along their length.
GPS receivers have a small number of "saved" tracks that they can display.
Simplifies loading trails onto a GPS & the associated documentation.
I've also grouped the resulting tracks into several zones to simplify maps and trail listings.
Initial grouping was based on Confluence Park near downtown Denver marking the junction of the S Platte River and Cherry Cr.
I Later had to add another split to cover outlying trails N of the metro area
(Boulder - Brighton - Longmont - Loveland etc.) - Zones for Castlerock & Colorado Springs areas have also been added
RTD Park & rides & Light Rail Stations: RTD Waypoints RTD HTML list
The Tabs above provide access to trail information in various formats - click on link to show:
- ALL (Spreadsheet)
- Provides the most trail information detail
- Hyperlinking connects trails to each other & overview sheet
- Contains information about each track, length waypoints & stats
- Prints out one page per track
- The last page of the spreadsheets is the same and lists all of the RTD Park & Ride locations and light rail stations that I could geo-reference.
Trail Name
Displays an html description of the trail. Trail construction / updates indicated to right
- GPX
- Trail information in standard GPs eXchange format - waypoints, routes and tracks (zip file)
- DeLorme
- DeLorme .an1 - tracks as draw file and waypoint files (zip folder)
- Draw layer overlay for direct use on PN20/40
- National Geographic
- National Geographic .tpo - track lines (zip folder)
I changed how I provide information in DeLorme & National Geographic formats: Both of these products now support importing GPX files and do it with a lot less processing for me. (Also smoother for you and easier to add data more selectively.
I stopped providing a file in native format for routes, waypoints and tracks for each zone.
If you want routes and/or waypoints simply import the appropriate .gpx file.
Upon import, DeLorme will create appropriate .anr (route), .an1 (waypoint & track) files. (It will append a sequential digit to the end of the track file name.)
I still provide waypoints in DeLorme format to take advantage of their rich set of symbols and long comments.
The GPX files use Garmin waypoint symbols. Magellan and Lowrance have a much smaller set of symbols that don't relate well to trail use.
